Arbeit und technischer Wandel in der Kreativwirtschaft. Erwerbsbiografien zwischen lokalen kreativen Milieus und Perspektiven virtueller Arbeit

Translated title Work and technological change in creative industries. Employment biographies between local creative milieux and perspectives of virtual work
Description This joint research project between FORBA and the Department of Sociology of the University of Vienna focuses on transformations in work organisation and employment biographies in the creative industries in the light of economic and technological change. The research includes two empiric strands: The first emphasis lies on the ‘sustainability’ of living and employment conditions of creatives. This analysis is conducted through a qualitative follow-up study with creatives already researched in 2005. The ten-year time span reveals how working conditions change over time and also unveil underlying structures within the creative sectors. Central is how the creatives’ deal with technological change, especially regarding the evolution of ICT-systems, and if local milieus remain important in this dynamic environment. The second emphasis lies on the phenomenon crowd work, where online platforms act as labour market intermediaries between clients and workers. Interviews with crowd workers reveal the living and working conditions that accompany this new form of work.
